Ukulele
I walk into my bedroom as the sun cascades through the window, illuminating the room with a warm, angelic feeling. As I sit on my bed I pick up one of my most favorite possessions- a ukulele, light blue with white strings and a wooden dolphin underneath the sound hole, enters my grasp. Sometimes these feelings of tranquility and serenity remind me of the islands of Hawaii, the origin of this instrument. Even though I’ve known about the ukulele for a long time, it was only until I received it as a Christmas present last year, that I started playing. About a year ago, in early Spring, my friend sent me a youtube video of someone playing the theme song of my favorite anime, Fairy Tail, on the ukulele. Once I saw that video, I knew for sure that that was something that I wanted to do as well. Be that as it may, I don’t connect this object to a special occasion. I play my ukulele as a hobby, purely for enjoyment. Playing my ukulele puts me at ease, which is especially helpful this year, as I’m more stressed than ever before. This object is important to me because I am very passionate about music. Furthermore, I believe that music in general is a significant part of my life because I appreciate it’s ability to evoke a feeling for both the listener and musician. Without a doubt, music is a form of self expression with the ability to transcend words. As a musician I respect it’s value and the impact it can have on people.
