Family Piano
My grandmother fled Germany to the United states in the summer of 1937 due to the Nazi’s rise to power. My grandmother valued music and family more than anything else in the world. Therefore the reason my grandmother took her beloved Bechstein piano with her to America. The piano meant so much to my grandmother because it was given to her as a wedding gift when she married my grandfather. Later after my grandmother had my father and his two brothers, my grandmother got all three of them to play the Bechstein Piano. As well my grandmother was very musically inclined which allowed her to teach my father to play the violin at a young age. My father fell in love with the vintage musical machine. My father and his brothers loved it so much that they created an orchestra where they would create music pieces to play to their parents. My father and his brother, Peter would be the violinists, while the other brother, Mark would be the pianist. Even still today, my father takes part in an orchestra where he plays his violin passionately , and joyfully. My father even taught me how to play the violin when I was at a young age. My joy for the violin slowly vanished inside me after my few years of experience. Today the Bechstein piano is held in my Uncles’ home in Pennsylvania where it will always hold my families legacy.
