Tailor's Stool

Group:

This is my grandfather, Joseph Guccione’s tailor stool. He was born outside of New Roads, Louisiana, but moved back to Sicily as a child. At 17, he returned to Louisiana and settled in New Orleans. He worked as a tailor in the French Quarter spending many years at Southern Tailor, which is now Restaurant August. This piece of furniture is in my kitchen and I sit on it almost every day and I think of how my father’s family traveled back and forth over the Atlantic Ocean in search of a better life in New Orleans.
