Sifting sugar in our SF apartment

Growing up, my grandmother taught me to bake traditional German Pfeffernusse cookies each Christmas. Small, round, and sweetly spicy, the cookies were finished off with a dusting of powdered sugar. My siblings and I gobbled them up along with the other family favorite: bourbon balls.

When I moved into my own apartment, I taught my roommate and girlfriend to make the cookies each Christmas. They poked fun at me for owning a sifter, but stopped laughing as soon as they tasted the cookies!
