The item is called a Kiddush Cup, it is made of sterling silver and it is used for Shabbat (a holiday) and Bar Mitzvahs (a once in a lifetime experience). The cup was made in Germany in the 1860s and was brought here by my great great great grandfather or my great great grandfather. The cup went from my great great great grandfather to my great great great uncle to my great grandfather to my grandfather to my dad to me. This object connects me to my ancestors in pre world war Germany and it also connects me to my great great grandparents who fled from the second world war.
