This story takes place after my dad gets to California. I'm not sure if this counts as a tradition but everytime a family member from Mexico gets here, they stay with the person who got here before them. So in this case my dad stayed with his brother, my uncle, for a day and was given some money to find a place and have food while looking for a job. My dad told me that for a while he stayed in a bedroom with people he didn't know and that he was just not happy with that. He started looking for jobs and he landed in construction. Ever since, he's stayed with it and even though there were times where he wasn't working that much, we still surprassed everything. My family is very podent in having you learn to fend for yourself and get things yourself because they know help isn't always accessible. Every family member that has migrated here has stayed with either my uncle or my dad since then and has done the same. Whether it's for a long time or short amount of time. They've all been able to find a home and find somewhat of a good job and if they decided to stay they would. Of course if any of them needed help they would get it. A lot of the men in my family have actually gotten jobs in construction and stayed with them for a while unless they decided to go back to Mexico.
