The heart of a family is often the home. In this story the heart is my great-grandmother, Grandma Carter's, house. My great-grandmother's house had many purposes. People lived in this house, people visited this house, people celebrated in this house, people cooked, ate and cleaned in this house; but most importantly, people loved in my great-grandmother's house. The house is no longer inhabited but is still located on Walnut Street on the Westside of Chicago, Illinois. This house is very special to me because of all the fond memories and experiences I've had there. I always looked forward to going to visit and remember feeling more at home in my great-grandmother's house than I did in my own house. Bittersweet is how I feel when thinking about my great-grand mother's house. On one hand I feel such happiness and love when looking back on that house, and on the other hand I feel an overwhelming sense of sadness because Grandma Carter is no longer with us and no more family memories can be made there. Even though I live in Minnesota now, Chicago will always be my home.
