Gold Jewelry
When my family immigrated to this country my grandpa brought his jewelry. Today he takes care of them, his diamond gold chain, gold rings and bracelets. On two Christmas occasions, he gave me a gold chain and gold bracelet. I kind of felt special because my aunt told me that he never gave his jewelry to anyone. I know his jewelry means a lot to him he always wears his bracelets, and it’s something you first notice about him. When he walks and uses his hands you can hear the clinking of his bracelets, and he is a handyman around the house so the sound of it is pretty frequent. From receiving a few gold pieces from him, I realize how good it makes you feel to have something that makes you feel unique. My first piece of jewelry I got when I was a kid, a present from my Godparents. When I lost it my Godmother was devastated and hurt, and I began to realize the value in things like jewelry that I didn’t always understand before that day. Where my family is from in Guyana gold can be found in the jungle. People use machines to dig for gold and even try to find it in the river. Things like gold can represent life cherishing memories.
