My dad came to the US in 1967. He was ten years old at the time. He came to this country with some of his family with a green card. At first he wasn’t happy out leaving his friends and some of his family to live in the US. He didn’t start to understand why they left Mexico to live in the US until he started high school. He understood that they moved so he can have a good life of education, work, marriage, religion, and to start a good family. He didn’t become a US citizen until he was 40 years old in 2007, five years after I was born. He didn’t say why he waited to become a citizen until then but when I think about it, it was because he wanted to wait until he started a family that he knew would be great. When asking him about his story he was saying that his family only brought their values and each other to truly start a new. The rest of his family moved to Gridley and still lives there. His dad was a cattle worker and was the one that wanted to move to the US. What does this story mean to me. It’s easy for me to say what this story means to me. My father’s story shows we how I should live my life, strong committed and to have a good family of my own.
