Brass Candlesticks
These brass candlesticks belonged to my great-grandmother, Sigrid, who was the mother of my grandfather Sidney. Sigrid was born in Sweden and eventually made her way to America to join her mother, who had gone over ahead of her. Sigrid married Axel, who was also Swedish but had changed his name to Alex in order to seem more American. He became a train engineer. The couple raised their three boys in Salt Lake City, Utah. The hallmark stamped inside the base of each candlestick indicates that they were produced by a Swedish manufacturer. These small and simple candlesticks are heavy and have a lovely golden color. They must have been quite precious to have been brought from so far and kept for so long.
