Birth Certificate Government Palestine
Birth Certificate Government Palestine

This is a birth certificate for my grandfather born in Haifa Palestine in 1938. This document shows the address of our family’s home before they were forcibly displaced from it in 1948 and the stamp of the Government of Palestines Revenue agency under the British Mandate. It also shows my great grand parents nationality as Palestinians and on the stamp, shows « 10 » mills which was used as part of the Palestinian pounds currency after the fall of the Turkish empire.  This certificate is one of many objects, including the key to our home in Haifa, that we hold dearly till this day that reinforces our sense of identity to our people, connection to our land and comfort in remembering our story. You can notice it’s written in English, Hebrew and Arabic, a testimony to the presence of different faiths living as one in historic Palestine, even under British control in the holy land.

Place(s): Haifa, Palestine
