A photo of my mom
I chose this photo because my mom was immigrating from Russia to America and that is really important to my family. When my mom was growing up they did not have a lot so my family is very fortunate. The people in the photo on the bottom left are my mom sitting on my grandma's lap and my grandpa hovering over them. About 38 years ago, my grandparents and my mom and other Russian immigrants fled Russia because there was antisemitism toward them being Jewish and it was not safe. They registered to go to America but first they had to go to Italy and live in a refugee camp for 6 months as they were immigrating. I chose this photo because it was a hard time for my mom and her family. I try really hard to try to think about how that time was difficult for them because they had a different religion.
