Worry Doll
My object is a yarn worry doll. It was made in Guatemala, where my grandmother comes from. The history behind it is that my grandmother immigrated when she was 30 to America with this yarn worry doll to keep a piece of her culture with her in America. The dolls usually show a woman in a colorful dress or working hard on daily chores that are done in Guatemala. The dolls show the culture of Guatemala which is why my grandmother brought it here. The doll mostly calmed her while being on the long trip, and made her happy by thinking of where she used to live and by it giving her hope of being able to go back. I am the person I am today because of my grandmother's influence. This doll represents both my identity and culture. It reminds me of my family’s hard work and how strong they had to be to come to a new country and start over while still keeping a positive mind set even in the hardest times.
