My great grandparents emigrated from Sicily and winemaking - and the associated materials - was something they brought with them and passed to my grandfather who made wine throughout his life in Niagara County NY. My father and I still make wine using homegrown grapes and a basic hand-turned destemmer and press. While these aren’t the originals from Italy, the process is essentially the same as it was in the early 1900s when my ancestors emigrated.
