The Traditional Haitian Drum
The Traditional Haitian Drum is made with wood and beef skin. It is a sacred object that has a symbolic dimension in Haiti. When it resonates , it makes all Haitians vibrate regardless of their religious faith or social affiliation.
The sound of this drum can be heard for miles. At the time of the colony the slaves have used it to send coded messages to other slaves working and living in distant plantations.
It is an instrument that accompanies joys as the sorrows and the moment of relaxation of the Haitians. And in the Haitian imagination , the traditional drum has an essential dimension like mobilization, convening and assembly.
