Teddy Bear
My mother tells me I arrived in this world in complete silence. There were no wails or screams, just wide, unblinking eyes taking the room in. When they placed me in her arms, I simply stared straight into her eyes, observing. In that quiet beginning, she passed down her childhood teddy bear to me, and he has been my constant witness ever since. He was there for the unabashed silliness of being six and pooping in the floor grates, he was there in the passenger seat when I was fifteen, nearly crashing the car learning to drive. Now, he sits beside me at seventeen. When I look at him he reminds me of how far I've come.
