Running since 1978, Skipper Dipper is the hit spot for your late night ice cream cravings throughout Long Beach Island. It is also the place from which my object the tattoo derived from.
The tattoo itself is circular shaped with a dark blue border, within said outline stands a cartoon like ice cream cone wearing a white sailors hat, waving at whomever the owner of said tattoo is. Written above this is the name of the ice cream shop Skipper Dipper in a bold white font.
Every August, for as long as I can remember, my family and I have always driven down to Long Beach Island, New Jersey. We always stay at the home owned by the in-laws of my dads best friend from college. Because our families are as close as they are, his children and I have always referred to each other as cousins, even though there is no blood relation. A few blocks from the house is an ice cream shop called Skipper Dipper. With every purchase cup or cone came with a few fake tattoos, and whenever I come across one, I'm flooded with numerous childhood memories: the time a stingray rode a huge wave and plopped itself on my father’s friend’s hat, sending waves of laughter through us all; the time we made the reckless decision to go paddle boarding on an extremely windy day leading to some family lost at sea in need of rescue from first responders.
