Silver Necklace and Ring

When I was 13-years-old my parents decided that the best thing for me was to move to New York City with my father. I am from the Dominican Republic and the education and economy is not very good. So, I knew that my parent’s decision was the best for me. Even though I was excited to move, I was also very sad, because I was moving to a new country with a new language I didn't know, and I was also leaving my family behind. My mom became depressed and worried about me leaving, but she knew that moving to New York was good for me. One day, before I was leaving the country my mom got me a silver necklace and ring, that matched the one she already had. Both pieces of jewelry had the symbol of the hand of Fatima. She gave this to me so we could be connected, even though we were in different countries. Those two pieces of jewelry also represent protection, so it is like she is watching over me and protecting me. Now that I live in New York City I always wear my necklace and my ring, so I feel my mom is here with me.
