This is a Silkstone Barbie. Their skin is made to look and feel like porcelain but not break as easily. This specific one cost about $115 and it was worth every penny. My grandfather passed in February of 2021 and for a long time I longed for a way to feel closer to him even though he wasn’t here anymore. Before he passed, my whole life he had shared his love of collecting Barbies with me, and I stumbled upon this one on a website from a vintage toy shop in Chicago. I bought it the second I saw it, as my grandfather had one at his house that was the exact same. Every time I look at my Barbies in their boxes on my shelf, I feel close to him and am glad I picked something up from him that we can share, but I know this Barbie is my favorite because it is exactly like his and the first one I ever bought for my own collection. People may think my hobby is stupid because why would you buy barbies just to collect? But it was something he loved and shared with me, and I hope to one day share this love and hobby with my children and pass them down.
