This is a picture of my mother and my aunt, respectively, in their early 20s. After graduating high school, they were not able to attend college due to financial reason. So, they decided to leave Malaysia and come to the United States in search of new jobs and opportunities. She worked in a restaurant in New Jersey as she first stepped foot in this country and only came home once a week. Eventually, she hated her job and decided to pursue a license in nail technician, and eventually worked her way up from there. Even though she is a US citizen now, she never forgot her root of where she came from and continues to inspire us, her children, with her stories.
