The rosary of my grandparents

During my grandparents immigration travels from Mexico to the United States in the year 1990, the number of personal items that they could bring was very few because of the dangerous and long route that they followed. One of the items that my grandparents had from their immigration travels and continues to hold a huge significance to them is a rosary. In particular, it was a glow in the dark rosary with the image of the Virgin Mary at the center and a crucifix at the end. For them, the rosary was a part of their identity as being members of the Catholic church. Specifically, it signified their devotion to a single god and his plans. Therefore, every single day during their journey they would pray and wear their rosary around their neck to remind them of their faith and hopes. The rosary that they held served as motivation and a force of resilience during the difficult times they had on their journey. For example, as their journey grew closer to the United States, they would often experience feelings of isolation and anxiety. However, having the rosary with them allowed them to continue their journey that served the purpose of building a better future for themselves and their children. After so many years living in the United States, the rosary continues to be an important item for them. Specifically, the rosary that they had during their journey hangs on a wall in their apartment. This continues to be a symbol of strength and the rosary often gets passed or gifted to relatives of the next generation.
