Janamaz from Bangladesh
Janamaz from Bangladesh

My artifact is Janamaz. Janamaz is an item my family uses when we are doing namaz. Muslims perform daily prayers. These prayers are called namaz. To do namaz Muslims need Janamaz. Janamaz is made out of silk and cotton. Every Muslim person uses this to do their daily prayers. The Janamaz shown in the above picture comes from Bangladesh. Janamaz is common in every Muslim household.
I chose this artifact because using Janamaz is a part of my tradition. When I was little my parents taught me to do namaz and to use Janamaz during my daily prayers. When I was in Bangladesh my grandmother gave me a Janamaz so that when I do namaz I can use it. My family immigrated to America in 2019. It was a long journey to America.  Now in America, I am using the Janamaz my grandmother gave to continue with the tradition of namaz.
When we arrived in America, my dad's friend picked us up and took us to his house. My dad's friend showed us around since we were new. We stayed in his house for a week, then we moved into our own house. I remember using Janamaz in America since the day I arrived here.  I strongly feel connected to Bangladesh when I am doing namaz using Janamaz in America.
