A sign that says Ristorante Italiano.
A sign that says Ristorante Italiano.

The image I chose is a sign of my father and represents his immigration story. From the photograph, we can see that he is an Italian immigrant. When Rosario, or as he is more commonly called, Ross, made the journey to the United States in his 20s, he was all alone. That image represents his success as an immigrant because he has started restaurants before, and the sign reminds him of his home and today the success he has had in the United States. That is because his journey to the United States led him to hotel school, a teaching career for Italian, and real estate, as the American opportunities allowed his entrepreneurial spirit to thrive. His story represents the American Dream, as he came here with nothing and now has a job, family, and, more importantly, a home. I chose this sign because it reminded me of the story of David Eng in the demonstration video for Your Story, Our Story because this probably reminds my father of his home. It also connects him to his culture, which I find very powerful, which David Eng found in that toy car and his cultural activities despite not being in his parents' home country. I can relate to this, and I find this through the food my parents make and the stories they tell. I also chose the sign because it represents the food he makes for my family and the knowledge he has for cooking, as he creates delicious pizza and pasta dishes that I enjoy.
