This is my Mom's Polish Stacking doll.
This is my Mom's Polish Stacking doll.

This is a Polish stacking doll from when my mom lived in Poland. This was a toy of hers and she brought it to the United States when she and her family emigrated here when she was five. My Grandfather emigrated to the United States when my Mom was just two years old. My grandmother stayed in Poland with my mom waiting for my Grandfather to return. This toy was extremely special to my mom because my Grandfather gave it to her when he left Poland. My Grandfather wanted to give my mom a special toy that she could remember him by and she kept it during the three years he was away. It was hard for her to remember him because she was so young when he left and this was one of the only ways that she could remember him.  He did not plan on staying in the United States but as communism got worse in Poland and more items became rationed he decided to bring my mom and grandmother to the United States. This was one of the only toys she was able to buy because during communism in Poland there were no traditional toys people were able to buy at stores. This is very special to my mom because this was her favorite toy and the only one she was able to bring with her when she came to the United States. It is very special to my family and my mom has it displayed on a decorative shelf in our home.
