The item I chose to represent this immigration story is a food item called Picaditas. They are a Mexican dish that we make at home by scratch for special occasions, or whenever my brother comes home from college. When my father immigrated to the United States as a teenager to find better work to create a better life, he didn’t bring anything physical with him. However, he brought his culture with him and has continued sharing it with the American side of my family. Cooking is one of the biggest ways that he does that, and Picaditas are one of my favorites. To make them, you use Maseca dough to create the tortilla. You cook the dough over two times, and when you cook it over the second time, you put on toppings (examples in photos)
