Needlepoint Christmas Stocking
My story is about my paternal grandmother, Donna Maynard, and her grandmother. Her grandmother and her husband immigrated from France in the late 1800s as young, Christian Lutheran adults. She enjoyed to sew, and sewed with her daughter, who sewed with my Grandma. My Grandma loved sewing so much at such a young age that she entered into competitions for young girls. She grew up as an adult loving to sew just as much as she did as a child. Whenever a person joins our family, through marriage and birth, she would sew us our own Christmas stockings. They are made of silk and cotton with beautiful needlepoint designs on them. My family uses them to celebrate Christmas as we are Lutheran and we hang them from the mantle over the fireplace and I have used my stocking from my Grandma every year since I was born.
