To others the African chain may seem like just a chain with the continental shape on it. In reality, it is what holds my identify. It helps me embrace the beauty of my culture and where I am from. It is where my family is from and where they told me I am from. The part of Africa I am from is Mali located In Western Africa. What makes me unique in my culture is I still wear African attire, eat African food, and embrace the culture though my looks even though I don’t live in Africa. An African living in America can sometimes be hard let alone an African Muslim, who is so devoted to her culture and religion.  In school the kids tell jokes like "African booty scratcher", or “where Aishah went” once the lights are turned off. Growing up you learn to embrace that dark skin, and accept that you are African. Africa is not just where I am from, but who I am.
