My object is a Chinese Chain, made from jade ,beads ,and connected by a red string. It was made in Beijing China, which was where my mother was visiting. The history behind this was that my mother was leaving to start a new life in America. A close friend had given this as a farewell gift as a symbol of safety (Jade) and luck (Red string). This object represents how my mother started a new beginning in America, while trying to keep hold of her Chinese background. This is why the object connects to my identity/background. Yes I was born here in NYC, but that doesn't change the fact that will always have Chinese blood.
