My mom had this dress when she was in her twenties. She lived in a very fun and spontaneous life. She traveled by herself a lot. I have always tried to emulate her lifestyle. She gave this dress when I was in college. When I first got it, it was kind of a joke because it's such a wild, crazy pattern, I never really wore it until I moved to New Orleans from New York. When I arrived in New Orleans I wore this dress all the time because I didn’t have a lot of summer clothes, I didn’t need much in New York. It makes me think of the moment when I first moved to New Orleans, a rather wild, crazy and spontaneous decision. At the same time, the dress reminds me of my mother and my family that I moved away from in New York. At this point, I have worn the dress so often that it's starting to fall apart, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.
