My Grandmother’s Dish

My family is Puerto Rican and every Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have rice, pork shoulder or ribs. By the time I get to my grandmother’s house for dinner it’s always almost finished or is already done and ready to eat. There is always one special dish that will always be on the table: Pasteles. The first time my grandmother made Pasteles she was only 13 years old. Sometimes, she lets me help her make it, which is very special. This recipe, which represents our culture, has been in my family over 70 years and I hope to pass it on to my family, as well.
