Metal sign
In the 7th grade my grandpa died (R.I.P.), he was a hoarder and has filled my Grandma’s house with many thrifted “treasures.” By the 8th grade the majority of the junk had been removed via backbreaking work, friends, and contractors. The removal of junk opened a room I had never been in before, the barns second floor. The second floor of the barn was my fathers hang out spot throughout high school. It was a tall long room with tall slanted wooden walls and many messages written inscribed by his high school friends. Upon the wall hung a sign, connected by two old metal screws. This sign was covered in dust and several large dead bugs. When I dusted the sign I saw a simple message written in raised lettering “Ball playing not permitted.” I immediately recognized the sexual innuendo and understood why it was hung there. When I asked my dad where the sign came from he said his uncle gave it to him. Upon further inquiry he told me that his uncle used to work for the city and made signs for use in parks and roads. The large metal sign used to be hanging in a park somewhere in Brooklyn Park. It was in a bin to be scrapped and his uncle saved it and gave it to my father. The large metal sign is now hanging in my room to be one day passed down.
