Menorah
The object I picked for this family heirloom project was my family’s menorah. A menorah symbolizes the 8 nights the Jewish people went through, and what events had to lead up to the candles staying lit. In the Jewish tradition we celebrate 8 nights of a candle staying lit. We practice this tradition to celebrate the events that had to happen for the menorah to stay lit for eight straight days. My Grandma passed down her very menorah from when she was a child, all the way to me now. This menorah has stayed in our family for as long as I can remember. This menorah is so special to my family because throughout everything Jewish people have gone through these past years with antisemitism, especially recently. This menorah has stuck it through with us and at the end of every year, it was always there. Me and my family for every year I have lived (and before that) have gathered around the menorah while saying prayers, eating latkes, and eating challah, during every night of Hanukkah to keep our tradition alive. This is hoped to stay in our family for as long as possible. Me and my family will try our hardest to keep the tradition alive.
