Wedding photo
In my living room on one of the bookcases we have a picture of my great-great-grandmother at her wedding. It comes from my mothers side of the family when she got married in the United States to Michael/Mike Mells. The picture has been kept in a frame, and has been in my house for as long as I can remember. On the back it says Hartford, Conn. Which leads me to believe that is where the photo was taken. It was passed down to my mother and she kept it. I always see it when I pass through the living room and think of the story about how she got here. My mom tells me about the stories my great-great grandmother used to tell her until she died in 1985 at the age of 90. This photo is very special because it is of the first person to come and settle in America, and she wasn’t even supposed to be the one to come over first. She came over when she was 14 when her sister was supposed to, she didn’t know the language or anything. Sadly I can’t find the year when the photo was taken. This photo shows how she started a family here and I am a part of it. Her story is what shaped my life today.
