La Rosa de Guadalupe Statue

We have a little statue of the Virgin Mary that my father brought from Mexico. The Virgin Mary statue reminds my dad of his home and the memories that he has made there. It is insane how the statue is still with us. I remember seeing it back when I was a little, not knowing what the statue was or what it meant, but I grew up to know who the statue is. Not only did the statue remind him of his home, but it was also a reminder of why he came to the United States. It was so he could improve his life and also give his children opportunities that he never had, give his children the life that they deserve and what he didn’t have, so that all the sacrifices that he is making will all be worth it, knowing that his children will succeed. After he came to the United States, it was hard for him because of the new stuff that he saw, the new language that they were speaking, and it was hard to look for a job. All that struggle and where he is now proves he is a hardworking man. My family’s story connects with others because there are others that use that same statue, but there is a different story behind it all. There are many others that came to the United States, struggled, and sacrificed a lot for their children.
