Menorah
My artifact is a silver menorah. It has a Jewish star and also holds nine candles at the top. One candle slot is for the candle that lights the others and the other slots are representant of the nights. My current family tradition is that we like to keep the dried wax drips from the burning candles on the menorah. It adds color to the silver and honesty just looks cool. Also, It is an object that holds candles lit on Hanukkah for eight nights. The story is about a miracle when all hope was lost in which a little bit of oil on a candle lasted for eight nights. The history behind this is that this object was passed down from generations of family starting with my great, great grandmother in the early nineteen hundreds. My great, great-grandma immigrated to America from Warsaw Poland to escape the Pogroms. All alone in New York, the only thing she had was her religion to connect with other Jewish immigrants. This Menorah brought people together in a scary time. I'm not sure how old the menorah is but at least over 80 years old. This object is special to my family because it is a reminder of how our Jewish holidays can bring us together. We use it for Hanukkah every year just like my grandparents, and their parents have. The object holds many memories of many generations lighting up a spark of a miracle. This miracle of this object is bringing many generations together throughout time.
