Aranmula kannadi (metal mirror)

An object that carries meaning in my family is the aranmula kannadi, a metal mirror. As glass is used to make a normal mirror, this mirror is made of a special type of rare metal alloy instead, in which is handmade and polished to a certain point that makes it reflective. It then can be bought framed in many different ways, like with brass or silver along with designs carved in to them. It requires a lot of skill to make, as the creation of this mirror dates long back and sadly its starting to loose its importance since there are very few people who are skilled enough to make them anymore. They are passed down bringing blessings over generations and is said to bring good fortune, prosperity, and clarity. It brings us together, as the mirror is significant on some special events, most holidays, and a sign of good luck in general.
