Irish Claddagh Ring
My grandmother gave me this ring as a gift when I was younger. With this gift came endless stories of our ancestors' travels to where they ended up today. All my grandmother could remember was that her family was originally from County Donegal, Ireland, while my grandfather’s family was French Canadian. My grandparents met in high school and have been together for fifty years, forty-five of those years. My grandfather proposed to my grandmother with a Claddagh ring similar to the one she gave me. She told me how the heart of the ring represents love, the crown represents loyalty, and the hands represent friendship. The ring also resembles if you have found or are open to love. If you are in a relationship, it should be worn on the left-hand ring finger with the point of the heart facing inward. It's worn the same way if you are married but on the right-hand ring finger. If you are single, it's worn on the left-hand ring finger with the point of the heart facing outward. My grandparents still wear Claddagh rings, and looking down on mine reminds me of who I am and inspires me.
