Whenever people come to live in a different country, their lives often change in a big way. However, there are always traditions that are very close to our heart that we choose to maintain. New York is known for a very fast-paced life. Maintaining any type of tradition when one lives in a fast-paced city is often very hard. However, when it comes to something like religion and family traditions people often want to maintain that piece of themselves. My family moved here from Russia. One thing that is very important for my family to maintain is our religion which is Christianity. This picture of the Virgin Mary is from my local church. My family and I have visited this church for years. It is a very important part of our life. In Russia, my grandmother was very religious and visited her church every Sunday. Even though my family does not have a set schedule that we visit the church by, we try to go as often as we can to thank God for our blessings. Also whenever we have any significant change coming into our lives like graduation, a new job or anything like that we make sure to visit the church and pray for everything to go alright. This local church is very important to my family. We have even talked about how hard it would be if we moved and could not come to this church anymore. It would certainly be something that we would greatly miss.
