Great Great Grandmothers Brush
This is my great, great grandmother Rose’s (Yes, I was named after her!) brush. My great great grandmother was a Jewish immigrant who came from Hungary in 1888.She traveled here with her sisters who were 14 and 15 when she was just two years old. Her sisters were dressmakers in Hungary and came here with my great, great grandmother.Later on, my great, great, great grandmother came here from Hungary but wasn’t happy with her life here.
The brush itself is made out of silver and has horse hair bristles. It has a woman’s face and flowers molded out of silver on the back of it. My great, great grandmother probably got the brush in America. We think it came in a set with a mirror but we don’t have the mirror.
I think that the brush and mirror made my great, great grandmother feel like she fit in more in America. I wonder if she remembered Hungary and if she liked America when she got there but I do know that I’m very glad to have this heirloom of hers.
