Pin of Tanks and Crossed Swords

My grandfather wore this pin while he was stationed in Carmisch-Partenkirchen on the southern border of West Germany from 1963 to 1964, around eighteen years after World War II. He lost his hearing from practicing firing shells inside of a tank. Although he never fought in combat, he has always been proud that he has done his duty to his country. He gave me this pin for my sixteenth birthday, but to me it wasn’t just a pin, it was a piece of our family history.
