My Grandmother's Scarf
My object is a scarf that grandmas wear in Russia.
This object is from Russia and is used for cold weather. Grandmas wear this when it is cold because in Russia it is freezing. It is used to keep their ears from getting cold. This scarf was my great grandma's scarf. It was passed down to my grandma and then to my mom and finally to me. This scarf is not only used for warmth, but it is also used for decorations. This scarf is made out of wool. This object is very common in Russia. My great grandma wore it in the Soviet Union and then eventually my grandma did too.
I chose this object because this is very important to my mom. It also reminds me how my great grandma lived in the Soviet Union. It teaches me that women in the Soviet Union that were Christian and married had to wear these to church or around the city so they would not attract the attention of other men . My mom immigrated to the United States in the 1990's with her mother.
After learning about my object, I was wondering why did my great grandma wear this if she was Jewish? This object reminds me of Russia because I can not go there right now because there is a war and it's dangerous there. It also reminds me of my language and my family in Russia. I will treasure this scarf and pass it down to my children.
