Gold Plated Cutlery

This gold plated cutlery set was given to my mother as a part of her dowry when she got married in 1995. In the late 70s, my grandfather worked as the Customs Specialist at Aramco, a famous oil company in Saudi Arabia. In Medina, he bought this set for my mother, who was only four years old at the time. He brought it back to Pakistan and saved it until my parents got married. When my family and I immigrated in 2000, this set was one of the few items of my mother’s dowry that we brought to America. It has a lot of sentimental value for my mother, as it has yet to serve its purpose. It often reminds my mother of all that she left behind for a better life in America. She hopes to pass it on to me in the future.
