Flan is from Dominican Republic and other places like Puerto Rico, Ancient Rome, and Mexico. The history behind this food is my great grandmother made it, then passed it down to my grandmother, then to my aunt and finally to my mom. Christopher Columbus found America then rushed to the riches of the region he also brought the richness of flan with it which everybody started to like. Nearly all of Central and South America loves flan in its various (a whole bunch of forms) custody forms. It has become especially associated with Mexico. The reason why this type of food is made on special holidays is because we eat it on special holidays like my grandmothers birthday, Christmas, and gather ups too. The reason this food is special is because this reminds me of my great grandmother she had died This dessert can be very sweet at times too. Also Flan can be very sweet when made de leche and taste like caramel and cheesecake together.
