Fisherman in Thailand
I am an immigrant from Thailand and my family is from Burma. In my painting you can see me catching fish in a beautiful place. When we went fishing, we sat under a tree because it was very hot. In my painting you can see me sitting under the tree. Next to me is a basket made out of bamboo. We put the fish in the basket. I am holding my fishing pole. It is made out of strong bamboo. If it is not strong, it will break. My hat is made out of bamboo, too. My parents made my hat. Every Saturday we used to fish. We didn’t have much money, so we had to make our clothes. We had a Karen loom to make cloth, and then we made our clothes from that cloth. We had to catch fish because we didn’t really have money to buy something to eat, so we went fishing. If we caught more than three, we could eat for two days. When I came to the United States I brought my Karen clothes and my language with me, but I couldn’t bring the fish.
