My dad - Steven Hilo Hanakahi Lono - was born in Hana, Maui, the 4th boy of a total of 15 kids. His family are descendants of the Pi’ilani, Pila, Ho’opai, Kepano and Lono lines.  He is one of the last 100% Hawaiians along with his remaining brothers and sisters. My dad and mom met in Lahaina where we lived and then moved to ‘America’ when we were small kine.  Both of my parents worked a handful of jobs to make ends meet while living on Maui but this job was one that my dad always said paid well - diving off of the Black Rock at the Sheraton Ka’anapali. He said he’d get generous tips from the crowd so much that he would ‘hana hou' (do it again) some nights because visitors loved it so much.

Place(s): Ka'anapali; Hana
