A pot of homemade Chicken Curry

This is chicken curry, a traditional dish from Bangladesh. The dish consists of chicken filled with loads of seasoning including cinnamon, chili powder, turmeric powder, masala, bay leaves, ginger-garlic paste, and etc. As I immigrated from Bangladesh to the U.S in 2016, the recipe of chicken curry never left our family. Even while I was miles away from home, the culture from my birthplace followed me here. My family and I have chicken curry multiple times a month. It’s a meal well loved by everyone in my family so it’s common in my household. But the meal becomes extra special on days when my dad is home. In those days, me, my brother, and my mom and dad all sit together and eat the chicken curry with rice. Additionally, this dish can tell people a lot about me. It can tell people of my ethnicity as a Bengali and can also give people hope because even if I’m in a foreign land, one so different than where I’m from, I still have my culture and traditions with me. This connects to We the People because according to the New York Times, New York City is home to the largest collection of Bengali Americans in the United States, with a population of over 100,000 Bengali residents in the city, so I feel like I am very connected to this city because it resides many people who share a similar identity to mine.
