My great grandfather was a stereotypical hispanic migrant worker. He and his family moved across California in order to find work picking fruit in the fields. Growing up during the Great Depression he had very little and worked hard to get by. This did not stop him from pursuing his belief of the American dream in owning a business. He, along with his brother, pooled resources to begin his construction and landscaping business. In order to attain this, he had to work within the confines of legislation, at the time, where there was a limit to how close hispanics could own land to the city center. Due to this, he had to utilize plots of land that were undeveloped and where no other buildings or infrastructure stood for miles. This included the home that he made for his wife and family, being the only house on a dirt road for years, until the city finally developed that far out. Despite these limitations, he managed to create a fairly profitable company that employed dozens of people and allowed him to own several homes.
