Broncolin

Group:

Broncolin is a honey syrup that relieves coughs and sore throats, it’s made in Mexico. It represents my family’s cultural identity because my grandma has kept the recipe and tradition around for years. I don’t know exactly how long she’s used it but i’m aware it’s been through all of her kids and grandkids, even herself. My grandma warms it up before she gives a spoonful to one of us when we’re sick, she says it goes down easier and helps more because it’s honey. My grandparents left Puerto Rico to migrate to Brooklyn, New York about 30 years ago and went back to the Island a few years later. They came to Lowell some years after and have been here since. My family’s story is unique because it’s our own, everybody has different stories and lifestyles to tell and let on. Our story is unique because we have brought something from our old home to our new one. We hope to take care of those we hold close. We are giving and being given a chance, a place to do what’s best for ourselves and our loved ones.
