The Bowl of Gumbo
Coming from my Mom's side of the family, my grandmother was known for her cooking, presents, and whole well being. Gumbo started out in my grandmas hometown in Mississippi where she was born. When my family had expanded and grandma had gotten money, she moved to California for a better job and new life. No one in my family knows the recipe, as my grandma had made it by herself on special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years day. The gumbo is a seafood soup with the toppings of Rice, Shrimp, Chicken, Crab, and much more. While she would cook the Gumbo, it would take around two days to make and the smell would be so strong that you could smell it from at least three houses down from ours. In addition, the bowl of Gumbo would always bring a big group of family to the house and we would always have a chance to be a big happy family while we waited for the Gumbo to be finished. Since my grandma has passed, i don't get a chance to have Gumbo as often, but when I get a chance to taste it, the Gumbo always reminds me where I'm from and who was the reason for being the person I am today.
