Belleek Irish Tea Pot
For years, I always wanted to know the story behind that beautiful piece of china in our living room. Fortunately, my family just recently explained the story behind this precious object. It is a Belleek Irish tea pot from the mid 19th century. Belleek pottery has been extremely popular within Irish culture for hundreds of years. It was originally owned by my great great grandmother on my father's side. Her name was Margaret and she moved to the United States from Ireland in 1870. She escaped abject poverty in Ireland and came to Chicago to look for a brighter future. When she immigrated to this country, she brought this Belleek tea pot with her. In fact, she only brought over a few of her belongings and this tea pot was one of them This object allows me and my family to remember her as a person and to pay homage to our Irish ancestry.
